Does Fish Oil Cause Constipation

Does fish oil cause constipation? This is a question I was asked not too long ago, and to be truthful, I had to go ahead and do some more research before I could answer the question. I take fish oil supplements, and I have never yet been constipated because of them, but of course not everyone is the same. Maybe essential oils constipation they could have this effect on some people, hence the reason why I decided to do further research before answering the question I had received.

After spending hours and hours searching the internet, my conclusion is that fish oil and/or omega-3 supplements do not cause constipation. Ironically, most of the information I uncovered tends to suggest it has the exact opposite effect, in that it can actually be used to relieve constipation. Some people claim that they cannot take omega-3 supplements because it gives them diarrhea, so again, this would suggest there is very little chance of fish oil being linked to constipation.

These supplements can however cause gas and bloating, but it would seem this is also extremely rare. The only complaint which seems to be quite common is one which concerns the after-taste. Many people say they experience an unpleasant fishy taste when they burp after having taken supplements extracted from fish. If I could personally contact all those people, I could tell them just how easy it is to avoid fish flavored burps.

If you are tasting fish when you burp after taking your supplements, it means you are not taking a good quality supplement. Instead, the fish based oil within the supplements has already become rancid, or else it is one or other added preservative that is causing the after-taste. Supplements that are made with 100% fresh fish "do not" produce this unpleasant side effect, so if this is something you are experiencing, you need to choose a different brand.

Apart from unpleasant burping, the only other real concern with omega-3, assuming it is a high quality omega-3 supplement, is the fact that it can and does thin the blood. For most people, this is excellent news, and it is exactly the reason why millions of people take fish based oil supplements, in that they can help to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

However, if you have a blood disorder that causes you to bruise easily or bleed profusely when you cut yourself, then fish oil supplementation is not recommended. The same thing applies to people who are taking drugs that are designed to thin the blood, since omega-3 would thin the blood even further.

So, essential oils constipation does fish oil cause constipation or not? Until someone proves otherwise, my advice would be that it does not. Having said that, all people are different, so there may of course be one or two people whose bodies react in this manner if they take fish oil supplements.
